DBSA Colorado Springs to Launch Veterans Support Group
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) Colorado Springs, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing support, education, and resources for individuals living with mood disorders, today announced that it will launch a Veterans Support Group on Tuesday, March 26 for active duty and retired service members living with mood disorders.
The Veterans Support Group will be held every Tuesday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Hillside Community Center located at 925 S Institute St. in Colorado Springs. No registration is necessary, attendees can simply show up. Active duty and retired service members are encouraged to participate in these meetings to connect with peers who share similar experiences.
“In honor of our active duty and retired military veterans, DBSA Colorado Springs proudly introduces a special support group tailored specifically for the brave individuals who have served our country while courageously managing depression, bipolar disorder, and other mood disorders,” said Marissa Valdez, DBSA Colorado Springs Board President.“We deeply value their extraordinary dedication and sacrifice, and it is our privilege to express our gratitude through the provision of a free, confidential, peer-led support group exclusively for veterans. While DBSA offers numerous support groups, we take immense pride in offering this unique group exclusively for active duty and retired service members navigating mood disorders.”
The Veterans Support Group aims to provide a safe and understanding environment for active duty and retired service members to share their experiences, challenges, and triumphs. By connecting with peers who have navigated similar struggles, participants can find comfort and encouragement within a community that truly comprehends their circumstances. A key aspect that enhances the group’s effectiveness is its peer facilitation by a local veteran.
“Having dealt with lifelong depression, and attempting therapy and medication in the past, I can confidently say that attending DBSA support groups has had the greatest impact on my health both mentally and physically. Having the opportunity to not only share, but to listen to others, and to finally feel surrounded by those whom I can relate with, is truly indescribable, and is something I have never experienced. I look forward to continuing this journey through the Veterans Group and meeting with others whom I can discuss this unique aspect of my life with,” said Tyler Helton, Veterans Support Group Peer Facilitator.
DBSA Colorado Springs recognizes the immense value of peer-led support groups in promoting mental and emotional well-being. The organization is committed to offering a variety of support groups tailored to different needs, and the addition of the Veterans Support Group further expands their reach to the military community.
